Good Morning Readers,
It's a quiet morning here at SPEC. But what a day it was yesterday. Every year at SPEC the staff try to get some
Christian talent to share in ministry with us here. "Jars of Clay", "Sixpence None the Richer" are a couple recent examples.
Well, back this year for the second time is a group (Two young
men) called "Lost and Found", who's name reflects their belief that as Christians we are both lost, and found, at the same time. One plays a guitar and one a keyboard and both sing. This music is a mixture of
song, sermon, parable, story, and drama. They are well received here at SPEC.This year they not only came to sing for the night, but have been here for two days doing worship, music, and teaching a workshp as one of
the class choices for the morning class. They have added much to this adventure.
Another similar pair are two men named "Ted and Lee", who do wonderful comedy. These two men have taken much of the story
in the Bible, both old and new Testament, and finding what's funny and human in the story, have dramatized these stories as a way of teaching very powerful and profound three dimensional lessons from often otherwise
boring and flat text. God and Gabrial, Jonah turning in his resignation as a prophet, Peter and Andrew and Jesus, walking on water, feeding the multitudes, washing of feet, are just a few examples of the material
that these two make so real, and so relevant, and so humorous, that this reporter was wonderfully impacted. Ted and Lee also have been sharing in worship, classes, and fellowship here at SPEC, and both groups were
involved and ministered in last night's communion service -- more on that later.
As briefly mentioned earlier, last night was the Communion worship service here at SPEC. Along with the aforementioned
"Ted and Lee" and "Lost and Found" another headliner to share in the worship last night, was the Community of Christ president, Grant McMurray. Grant will also spend a few days here with the kids in
fellowship and awarding special scholarships to selected students who will attend Graceland University in the fall. Grant shared a wonderful sermon that dealt with "The Mystery of Christ", yesterday's camp
theme. Grant's ministry is always well received here by camper and staff alike.
One couple who missed the communion service, and in fact all of last nights festivities, was our "honeymoon couple", Jamie
and Logan. The Rockies staff, in a surprise move yesterday, "awarded" the young couple (during the Morning Show in front of the entire camp) with an all expense paid night in a local motel here in Lamoni, for
a night of quiet reflection and relationship building. We expect to see them return this morning, probably to much ribbing, hopefully worth the embarrasement.
Today, off to a late start, as the camp is allowed to
sleep in an extra hour, promises to be another exciting and spirit filled adventure as we spend the day "Alive in the Spirit". Well, suffice it to say that the only one who sems to be alive this morning is
yours truly, but the day is young and the Son is only beginning to whisper "Good News" to the participants here at SPEC today.
And so, until later, this reporter bids you a Spirit filled day, and
challenges you to be "Alive in the Spirit" today. God Bless, Your roving SPEC reporter. Seventy Bob |
